That last look: it’s a secret between the two of them, that Sherlock cares and has feelings— a piece of himself he’s been able to make everyone uncertain about— except apparently Jim Moriarty, who tells him playfully that he alone can see everything in Sherlock’s heart.

It’s quite an intimate character insight, especially given that John’s questioned it (“just so I know, do you actually care about them at all?”) earlier in the episode
